Which is the Best Option?

Weight Loss Shakes vs Protein Shakes for Weight Loss?

In This Article We’ll Discuss Weight Loss Shakes and Protein Shakes for Weight Loss and Look at the Benefits of Both.

Both Weight Loss Shakes and Protein Shakes can help support your body composition and athletic performance needs, however they do differ dramatically in nutritional profile and benefits.

With that said, deciding whether a Protein Shake or Weight Loss Shake is more effective can be Quite simple.

What’s the Calorie Difference Between Weight Loss Shakes and Protein Shakes?

Weight Loss Shakes are intended to have more calories and make you feel fuller than a Protein Shake. Even though they are higher in calories than Protein Shakes, they still tend to be lower in calories than regular meals, this can aid in dieting.

Whey Protein isolates are generally the lowest calorie protein shakes, with about 100 calories per serving, while Weight Loss Shakes usually contain between 250 and 400 calories per serving.

What’s the Carbohydrate Difference?

Protein shakes generally have less than 5 grams of carbohydrates, this is because they are not intended to be full meals.

Weight Loss Shakes tend to contain much more carbohydrates to make the nutritional value more like a real meal.

What is the Difference in Fat Content?

Protein shakes are typically low in fat, with 3 grams or fewer, while the fat content in Weight Loss Shakes varies from 10 to 13 grams of fat.

Whey Protein Isolate Shakes have even less fat content than regular Protein Shakes.

What is the Difference in Protein Content?

Protein Shakes Generally provide about 25 grams to 30 grams of protein per serving, while the range of protein in Weight Loss Shakes differs widely.

Weight Loss Shakes intended for “overall health” may be lower in protein, with 10 grams to 20   grams per shake.

Protein provides muscle-building amino acids, this will also aid in weight loss. Studies have shown that high-protein diets can help you lose more weight and fat than lower protein meal plans. You may want to check out my Ultimate Protein Food Reference List for a wide variety of protein foods.

 Verdict And Final Thoughts:

Obviously Protein Shakes are better than Weight Loss Shakes on various levels. And I know from experience that “no matter when I drink a Protein Shake, I’m typically not hungry again for about 3 1/2 to 4 hours!”  Especialy after a workout.

However I cant make the claim that Protein Shakes are better than Weight Loss Shake’s when it comes to weight loss because Protein Shakes are (a low calorie drink) designed to “Supplement” extra Protein into your existing diet while Weight Loss Shakes are designed to be a “Meal Replacement”. (Can’t compare Apples to Oranges).

But if you are using Weight Loss Shakes as a meal replacement you still need a low calorie Protein Shake because It’s highly unlikely that you are getting enough protein to MAXIMIZE your weight loss and maintain your muscles, especially if you are working out or doing cardio along with your diet!

Weight Loss Shakes vs Protein Shakes for Weight Loss? #4

Using Protein to maintain your existing muscle (no matter how overweight you are) is CRUCIAL for LOSING WEIGHT because the muscle on a persons body burns 3 times more calories than a persons body fat.

In Conclusion Remember: No Matter if your Eating “Regular Meals” or Drinking “Meal Replacement” aka Weight Loss Shakes you still need to have Protein Included in your weight loss routine!
